Chocolate Chip Meringues



2 egg whites
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 cup sugar

1 tsp vanilla
1, 6-oz pkg semi-sweet chocolate chips
or -- 1 cup chips

* In small bowl of mixer at high speed, beat egg whites
with salt until stiff, but not dry.
Add sugar, 2 Tbsp at a time, beating well after each addition.
Mixture should be very stiff and glossy.
Stir in vanilla and fold in chocolate chips.
Drop by teaspoonfuls 2" apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake in preheated oven at 300' for about 25 minutes
or until light golden and firm to the touch.
Remove to rack to cool.
Serve as treats or with chocolate ice cream.
Store tightly covered in a cool, dry place.
