Vanilla Wafers



2 eggs, separated
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla

1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

Cream shortening and sugar. Add well-beaten egg yolks.
Sift together 1/2 cup flour, cream of tartar, salt, and baking soda.
Combine with egg mixture. Mix thoroughly.
Add stiffly beaten egg whites and vanilla.
Add sufficient flour to make a soft dough. Turn onto lightly floured board.
Roll in sheet 1/8" thick. Cut with floured cutter.
Place on slightly oiled baking sheet.
Bake in 400' oven about 10 minutes. Serves 50 pieces.
